Snack of the Week: Gingerbread Oreos

Gingerbread Oreos. By far the most elusive limited edition flavor of a snack to track down in the history of Snack of the Week. In late November, people were sending me links indicating the release of this new flavor. And I had to try it. But I could not find it anywhere. So I mentioned them to my mom and she was like "Oh I just bought them! But there were so good that there are only two left."  So in the next package she sent, I found a snack-sized Ziploc bag with two gingerbread Oreos in it.

Maybe it was the exclusive nature of getting just two of them, but oh my gosh, they were the best Oreo I had ever tasted. I loved the vanilla cookies. And gingerbread filling did not cross the line into the gross-fake-gingerbread flavor. I savored those two Oreos for as long as I could. Which was about four minutes.

But then on a post-Christmas shopping trip, my mom found a whole package of the cookies. Which is now mine.

And I can say with certainty that I did not exaggerate their deliciousness simply because they were scarce sweets. Nope, even with the whole package in my hands, these Oreos taste just as good as I remembered.

If you can track these down, it is worth the effort. If not, we can all just hope they are back next holiday season!

Snack of the Week is a weekly feature where I profile the best snack that I am eating. Equal parts healthy and indulgent are how I aspire (and sometimes fail) to eat my way through life and I try to reflect in these snacks. All snacking is done with a budget-friendly mindset as well. If you have any suggestions for snacks you would like me to try and profile, please email me at iwbadg@gmail.com. Unless it is super weird or expensive, I will probably try it.

  1. I wish I didn't know about this. And, I hope I don't see any at the store tomorrow. (I totally hope there are some at the store tomorrow).

  2. Thank GOODNESS the holidays are over and I won't stumble across these until next Christmas. I need to be able to get through the first 2 full weeks of my new year resolution to stay on my diet longer than I did in 2012 (2 weeks!)

Have you ever tried making your own Oreos? I haven't....yet.
