Back to School Giveaway #3 – I Saw Your Picture Today

bts Was there ever day more fraught with primping and personal appearance woes than school picture day? Panic over a zit that magically appeared minutes before the flash went off; hair that was shellacked in place by 12 ounces of Aqua Net; clothes that were meticulously chosen weeks in advance. The weird backgrounds.  Did anyone else’s school make the big change to the neon blue backgrounds at some point?

And yet after all of that, we all ended up with pictures like this:

six

Yes, somewhere under those pudgy cheeks, humongous pink glasses, what I believe can be classified as a mullet (and my frizz is so out of control that it does not even fit in the picture!) is sixth grade me. And horizontal stripes? Always a brilliant idea.  My skin, however, is amazing in that picture!  I am guessing the huge glasses provided some sort of protective barrier between all possible acne-causing contaminants and my skin.

The worst part? I actually remember my fifth grade picture being a thousand times worse. I just couldn't find it in my picture stash.

Oh, school picture day, you immortalize our most awkward days.

To enter today’s giveaway, describe your most awful, awkward, mortifying school picture. Do not spare any of the gory details! If you want, scan them and email them to me. I won’t post them; they will just make me feel better about my photographic debacle.

And if you are really really good with your replies, I will possibly share my senior pictures in my post tomorrow. People, there is a pleather jacket involved. You KNOW you want to see it.

Giveaway Details

One mega giveaway will be held this week to win a Back to School Prize Package. The Back to School prize package includes:

  • A $25 gift card to Staples where you can stock up on your school supply essentials.
  • A Back to School snack pack (Hint: If it has been featured in Snack of the Week with a positive review, then it is probably in the snack pack)
  • A $30 gift card to CSN stores where you can stock up basically anything you can imagine:bookshelves, shoes, bedroom vanity or even trash cans.
  • And last but not least, one dozen of the Whoopie Pies of your choice. Baked by me. It can be a flavor already featured on Whoopie Pie Wednesday or a new one by request.

Total value of the prize package is over $80 but with the homemade Whoopie Pies, it's basically priceless, right?

Each person will have five chances to win. Each day, Monday through Friday, there will be a post with the word "Giveaway" clearly in the title. Just read that post and answer the question in the comments section and that comment is your entry. All entries will be combined at the end and one winner will be drawn on Sunday, September 5th at 6 p.m.

  1. ok, i am still laughing at your picture. awesome! i wish i had my old ones here to jog my memory (not) but i think my worst was 4th grade? i went through an ugly stage from about 3rd grade to 8th (some could argue longer). but that year i had those bangs where you curled half of them up and half down. you know what i'm talking about. (wait- did i really curl my hair in 4th grade?) i also chose to wear some really huge earrings even though i never wore earrings. (again- 4th grade? earrings? maybe that year is wrong)

BUT i did not have a mullet. just sayin.

  2. The only one that immediately comes to mind is my junior year in high school. I'd started wearing my hair with the part on the opposite side. It looks weird.

  3. HA! I can only wish I was in the greater Pound area right now to send you my pictures from Junior High. My bangs went like this: 1. grab bangs. 2. hairspray bangs. 3. rat bangs. 4. hairspray bangs. 5. rat bangs. 6 inches high? You betcha!

  4. My 7th grade picture...bangs up to the sky teased and sprayed with rave until they BEGGED for mercy. Green and purple eye shadow to match the green and purple on my Debbie Gibson T-shirt...you see...someone didn't know that it was picture day. I had just gone to see Debbie Gibson and New Kids on the Block...and I had to wear my shirt the next day. IT WAS HOT!

  5. I keep thinking of this picture we have of our whole family on a huge hammock and I'm making the most ridiculous face with the longest and weirdest looking hairdo I think I've ever had in my life. But, since that's not actually a school picture I'll pick another one. I think it was my freshman year - I wore a blue or gray polo that was a little too big, and no make-up (mom wouldn't allow it). The worst part about the picture - I had just gotten a haircut...from the aforementioned longest weirdest looking hairdo to a SHORT bob. Like, above my ears short. It was layered...and I didn't know how to handle my hair at that point anyway. I basically looked like a darker redheaded bozo the clown. It was pretty awful. And my smile showed just how bad I thought my haircut was. Yep, that was pretty embarrassing.

  6. that picture is AMAZING. love love love! :)

i wish i had mine right now. in second grade, i chopped off my ridiculously long red hair into a "bob." i use quotes because it was an atrocity. i ended up having a ginger afro that made me look like a boy. i hated pink and ruffles then (not anymore!), but after being tormented for going into the girl's bathroom with my "icky boy hair," i wore the girliest of outfits. my 2nd grade portrait was a pink corduroy dress with a huge collar, my ginger afro, and a HUGE lace bow in my hair. it was FUGLY. thankfully my mother kept the pictures and torments me with them every chance she gets.
