Your Thoughts On: Elasti-back Shoes

I own these shoes:
I own them for a variety of reasons including:
  1. The color SCREAMS summer.
  2. They are Borns; therefore there is 95% chance they are comfortable (they are).
  3. I got them for 65% off.
  4. Um, hello, they are ridiculously cute.
They are also my first pair of shoes with the "hot for the moment" trend of an elastic back (or as I call it, "elasti-back"). Which I have yet to understand the point of. I have this thought every time I clomp up and down a Metro escalator and the shoe slides off the back of my foot. If it were a regular shoe, my foot would just slide back in. With the elastic-back, the back of the shoe fold over and I step on the shoe, rather than step back into it.

I really like this shoe; I just think I would like it even more, like it would slide into the Top Shoe position in my personal shoe rankings, if it had a regular shoe back.

Your thoughts please on: Is there a deeper reason for the elasti-back? Do you own a pair? Do you like them or would you like it more if it had a regular shoe back?

  1. I think it's actually meant to hold your foot in more securely. I like it, because new shoes usually put blisters on my heels, but elasti-back shoes have soft, unstructured heels that don't hurt my feet.

  2. Interesting. I would not have thought that they would hold the foot in more securely. I actually thought the opposite. I find them to be fine when I am walking on flat surfaces. But it is those pesky stairs... I actually never realized how many stairs I walk up and down every day until I started wearing these shoes.

  3. i think its just a fad. those are really cute though. my heel is often the first to start screaming when i wear new shoes so maybe i should try some elasti-backs!

p.s. you love the color salmon.

  4. There is definitely no heel irritation with these (and I would guess with most elasti-backs). Because I am brilliant, the very first time I wore these was when I went shopping in Georgetown. Beyond my usual tripping on the cobblestone though, I had no problem (aka no blisters).

  5. And yes, I love the color salmon. It is my signature clothing color but oddly enough, shows up nowhere in any of my household decor.
