Learning the English Lingo

Ice Lolly=Popsicle

Car Boot Sale = Rummage Sale/Flea Market hybrid. Okay, I do know enough English to know that a car boot is a car trunk but when I saw a sign advertising a “car boot sale” the image of a field of car trunks for sale just did not seem right. Why would a person only want to buy a car trunk? So I asked my taxi driver and he explained that people load up the trunks/boots of their car and head to the school field and sell their wares. Since there happened to be one on Sunday in the field near the Meryan House, I went to investigate. It was quite the Sunday morning hotspot. The place was packed, actually!

Weird picture angle but I was trying to be discreet.

My favorite items that I saw for sale: 1) An Ovaltine Mug 2) A half-used bottle of dish detergent. Maybe it failed to come through on the promise of leaving their dishes sparkly clean?
