Everything's Merry at Meryan House

When I began planning this trip, I was looking at a number of places to stay in the Taunton area. I was so grateful that Saira and James did a little hotel recon for me and reported back with a rave review of how beautiful the gardens at the Meryan House were. That was enough to sell me on the place so I promptly made a reservation.

Meryan House is a 600 year old building (which was amazing for me to think about) run by a married couple who were the two most gracious hosts. They were so helpful with everything. Cherie made my breakfast every morning and took great pains to ensure that my scrambled eggs (local, free range eggs from a neighboring farm...England is light years ahead of the states on the local, organic movement) were up to American standards. HA! There was always a tense moment as she watched my first bite to see if the eggs were suitable. No worries, they were delicious.

Due to the building being so old, the ceilings and door frames were all a bit crooked. And there was no elevator. Which was not a problem for me but was for another American couple who stopped in one morning in search of a room while I was eating breakfast. The woman asked if there was an elevator because she had four suitcases that were heavy. Cherie informed her that there was no elevator but they could store their luggage for them on the first floor. The woman was quite adamant that she needed to use things in all four suitcases. Okay, I am definitely an overpacker, but four suitcases?!?! Really?

My room...

I loved the damask wallpaper in the bathroom! (And clearly I made myself right at home and whipped out my arsenal of beauty products. HAHA!)

My first experience with an electric shower. HA! Seriously was confusing at first....

My favorite part of the day was returning to my room to discover what kind of biscuit had been left on my tea/coffee tray. (Okay, it looks like I had already eaten it this day. My favorites where the shortbread and the chocolate chip. Was not a fan of the stem ginger variety.)

The beautiful gardens!

Pig Planter!!!

I really love when I stay someplace and it feels home, albeit only for a short period time. I definitely got that feeling here. It was lovely!
